Months after the death of George Floyd by the hands of police officers in Minneapolis, another black man has been killed by a white police officer in Atlanta.
The black man is 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks and the event occurred on Friday, June 12th.
Rayshard had an encounter with the police because he was reported to have broken the law at a fast food drive-in.
The statement by the Bureau of Investigation said, “During the arrest, the male subject resisted and a struggle ensued.
“The officer deployed a Taser. Witnesses report that during the struggle the male subject grabbed and was in possession of the Taser. It has also been reported that the male subject was shot by an officer in the struggle over the Taser.”
Rayshard was approached by the officers after he failed a sobriety test which started the altercation.
According to videos that have surfaced online Rayshard was struggling and resisting arrest before running away only to be shot three times.
He was taken to the local hospital where he died despite surgery.

To those judging #RayshardBrooks because he fought and ran: Maybe he decided to fight and run because he knew that complying wouldn’t necessarily guarantee his safety. Maybe he thought he was fighting for his life. Maybe. pic.twitter.com/KLpbPEjYez
