A 78-year-old man, PA Benson Ekpenisi who hails from Owan-Nta Aliosimi in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, has within the week said his fifth son, Patrick, who teaches in Okundaye Primary School and a member of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) beat him up everyday.
In a telephone conversation with Ika-Times Newspaper, Benson said his son, Patrick Ekpenisi, has on several occasions tried to killed him alongside his wife over a piece of land – despite giving him a plot to build his house.
Narrating the story, Ekpenisi said: “The story started many years ago when my son PATRICK EKPENISI who is the fifth among my children had been threatening to kill me and the mother and he had been saying it with the boast that he has political and royal backup”.
“In several occasions, he had said that no policeman from Ika North East and Ika South local Government can arrest him because he will be release by the politicians in Ika federal constituency”.
Continuing PA Benson Ekpenisi who narrated how him and his wife had been suffering in the hands of their son, Patrick said, “I was sitting under a palm tree in my compound on when my son Patrick came out from his house which is rightly opposite my own at Boji-Boji Owa-Nta Aliosimi and started pointing fingers at me shouting that the land I am about to sell to repair my leaking roof can’t be sold – that it should be given to him”.
“I replied him saying who are you Patrick to tell me what to do with my own land again. Besides, the land where you Patrick built your own house were given to you by me”, Ekpenisi stated.
That was how the fight started.
According to eye witnesses, Comrade Patrick Ekpenisi carried his father up and use him to hit the ground several times. “He also tried killing him by using his head to hit the palm tree he was sitting under but the old man managed to escape”, a source who pleaded anonymity said.
Pa Ekpenisi further stated that his son (Patrick) also tried killing his mother by breaking the plastic chair she’s seated on and started to use it to hit her head but the old woman was quick to run into the house through the backyard door and locked the door against him coming inside, “he tried breaking the door with some objects but did not succeed”, he said.
The old man said that this is not the first time his son has tried beating them up and whenever he reports the matter to Owa Oyibu Divisional Police Station, they do nothing about it.
Mr Ekpenisi Benson lamented that: “I’ve reported the matter to several authorities but non has been able to combat the issue, that is why I am asking the Government of Delta State and other relevant authorities to please look into the matter and come to my aid quickly before my son, Patrick will kill me and my wife”.
Efforts to reach Patrick for comment proved abortive at the time of filing this report.
