Meet Falmata Abubakar, the mother of Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau

Falmata Abubakar is the mother of Shekau Abubakar; leader of the deadly terrorist group that have being disturbing the North Eastern part of Nigeria, Chad and Northern Cameroun.

Falmata Abubakar during an interview with Voice Of America didn’t give biographic information about herself but she disclosed that Shekau’s father was an Imam in his village in Yobe State.

She disclosed also that she have being in contact with her son for years. According to Falmata Abubakar, her son Shekau Abubakar left his home town for Maiduguri to study Islamic Studies in Maiduguri where he met the founder of Boko Haram Yusuf Mohammed who she believed “brain washed” her son into the act he is currently portraying.

Abu Mohammed Abubakar bin Mohammad al-Sheikawi is a Kanuri man known as the leader of Boko Haram, a Nigerian militant group that has declared loyalty to the Islamist militant group, Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS). He served as deputy leader to the group’s founder, Mohammed Yusuf, until Yusuf was executed in 2009.

Nigerian authorities believed that Shekau was killed in 2009 during clashes between security forces and Boko Haram until July 2010, when Shekau appeared in a video claiming leadership of the group.

He has subsequently been regularly reported dead and is thought to use body doubles. In March 2015, Shekau pledged allegiance to ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

He is married to one of Muhammad Yusuf’s four widows. His nickname is “Darul Tawheed”, which translates as “specialist in tawheed”, the Islamic concept of oneness of Allah.
